Exciting new year!
Newsletter January 2022
Hi from Potchefstroom. Hope you are doing very well and are very
blessed! We are very blessed to be reasonably free and living normal lives in
South-Africa after a relatively quick spike in Covid that seemed to disappear
quickly. We are excited to see the pandemic less of an issue this year.
Planning for 2022
During the pandemic
we had a change of season and we geared more towards an internet base. We saw
the strong points and the weak points of internet ministry and we were forced
to do missions to the utmost extent on technology. Our schools had a major
impact in many people's lives and now we can move more to professional schools
on the internet.
Strengths of the internet
schools
1)
Huge availability
for people to do schools
One of the major strengths of
internet schools is that so many people in the world can do these schools
easily. This makes it a very good mission tool. People from all over the world
can go to school just with phones or a computer. We have already seen that this
is quite significant for the advancement of the gospel and we saw an increase
in student numbers from the time we launched internet schools.
2)
A great tool
for marketplace ministry
Many people do a
Ywam DTS and then go into the marketplace. There are a few million people that
did DTS and are somewhere in the marketplace serving God. For these people
fulltime schools are out of the question but they are able to internet schools.
We have seen that we can serve this need and also reach many people that didn’t
do any DTS before.
Weaknesses of internet schools
1)
Lack of
accountability
People can do school and be in
mentoring relationships on the internet but go on with secret sinful lives.
That is why it is important to work with bases that do full time schools and
are able to oversee people’s lives. People however need to live before God
themselves but we do encourage them to do full-time schools if they can.
2)
People can
just quit a course and be unavailable whenever they like
This can be seen as
a weakness yet we want to respect people’s will as well, but when they are on a
base it is more difficult to just quit.
We do see a lot of
grace over our schools and it has a very far reach. As we were full time base
leaders for 7 years this kind of school is more suitable to us for now and we
are able to mentor very far and wide according to the grace of the Lord. After
a school we still have these relationships and it is so fulfilling to have
conversations and prayer or TPM sessions with people in ministry or in the
marketplace from another continent, seeing them having victory in everyday
lives through Jesus Christ!
Mentoring / TPM
Christien focus a lot on
Mentorship and counselling with TPM sessions weekly – focussing on ladies with
ministry focus in their lives. What a joy the see young African ladies standing
up in their Calling when Jesus frees them from fears, identity lies and pain.
Wikus also has a lot of
one-on-one’s and TPM sessions that he does with men, especially men who feel a
calling for ministry,
Operation Refugee
Africa
We still network a
lot with the X-refugees whom we helped to get sponsored for DTS, they are now
blossoming in ministry leading groups in YWAM. Our aim this year is to keep
contact and keep praying for our ORA members. We also arranged connections with
outreach groups and individuals from Potch to go to the refugee Camp YWAM base
at Dzaleka. If you want to get involved in this ministry – let us know. We
still need fundraisers, funding, teams and skilled people to help in Africa.
2022 - Planning for the year
1) We
plan to do 2 Prophetic schools this year. The first one already has good numbers
of students and starts on 21 February. It is in French and English, You can
still register!
2) We
plan to do 2 Transformation Prayer Ministry (TPM) schools for the year and we
also have very good numbers for our first school there, we also have people
from different countries as in the past, and that makes us very excited!
3) We
also plan to do 2 Biblical Worldview schools in the year.
4) We
are introducing a new Refugee school and plan to do one this year.
5) We
plan to develop two new schools for the year and will update you on how it is
going with the development of these schools. It takes a lot of time, effort and
refinement for these schools to be developed but when they are developed they
are of great value as it becomes a professional tool and resource for the kingdom
of God.
6) In
the meantime Wikus is also busy with the YWAM International Refugee circle
(meetings) and also the African Refugee circle (networking).
7) Christien also has a
small part-time job at the University where she gets a chance to influence upcoming
teachers.
Celebrating 3 birthdays in
January
Christien, Jonathan
and Elandri had birthdays in January and we are looking to have a braai with
their friends this Friday. We are extremely blessed to have healthy twins
studying music and computer engineering. We also celebrated that Josua finished
his Matric very well with four distinctions, Jonathan got his drivers licence
and we are so thankful Job and Iida is safely back from Finland for a Christmas
with her family. We are very thankful for many prayers answered!
Joshua preparing for DTS*
Joshua is praying for his DTS in
April in the Netherlands. He is hard at work trying to get the finances and it
takes a lot of faith as it is expensive to go to Europe from SA. He has about
R12 000 and needs about R100000 for the DTS and also air tickets, visa etc.
that brings the total close to R120 000. We are allowing him to hear from the
Holy Spirit himself and to go where he feels God leads him. Please pray with us
for this bid step!
