Celebrating God's Faithfulness in Africa
Inauguration of the YWAM Dzaleka base - Malawi
About 5 years
ago Ywam Potch had an outreach to Dzaleka refugee camp. We met a wonderful
couple in the refugee camp. We started Operation Refugee to see if we could get
some refugees to do DTS. Michelle Tholle volunteered to do some fundraising and
she did an amazing job In the end we could sponsor 17 refugees. Tresor and Falone
was part of these refugees. Yvonne Derwig also volunteered as fundraiser. She
was also a great help and blessing.
Ywam Blantyre presented the DTS for the refugees and also helped with sponsors for their further studies. Tresor and Falone were therefore able to continue in Ywam and do quite a few more schools. In the end they were able to qualify as base leaders!
Ywam Blantyre was able to mobilise funds for a base and building and now about 5 years later, a beautiful base was opened very close to the refugee camp. This makes it very possible for many refugees to do DTS and do University of the Nations courses internationally with Ywam. For us this is a celebration of God’s kingdom and many people working together with wisdom and compassion. Pray with us for Tresor & Falone and the Dzaleke team!
School for
refugees
Out of this movement (Operation Refugee) a new
internet school was developed and now the movement has grown globally. We have
designed a course that refugees can receive on their phones and start their
walk with the UofN ( YWAM’s University). We are aiming to start the internet
course in the second semester of next year.

SPONSORS needed:
- Ø Support more
Refugees to do DTS (R10 000 will go towards their Lecture phase)
- Ø Support our X-refugee

their basic expenses since YWAM do not provide a salary)

Yesterday I was invited to open at a farmers day with prayer. There were about a hundred farmers on the day and I made a lot of connections with farmers in the region and in the country. In the new plot (small farm) we are working on as a base, some of our staff have started to plant vegetables and we are helping them to start small businesses. Saimoon is in charge of this project with Thando and Pule who full time stays there. It has a lot of potential as the staff can now pay their staff fees and also make some income for themselves. We are hoping to help some young people to create businesses for themselves and then to be able to have a financial future and even pay for their DTS or Ywam schools if they want to further their education. Many of our local African staff or possible students do not have the back-up of families who have money. Creating jobs will be a long-term solution for our community.
If you want to get involved with this ministry – please let us know.
- Ø We need
seeds, plants, trees and also funds.
- Ø If you have time to come work with us on the small farm (plot) you can also let us know!
- Ø Please pray for this ministry of job creation and education in farming.
I went through a very tough six weeks as couldn’t
walk with an extremely painful leg. I found out that I have an infection in my
spine. I was given some exercises and they said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to
heal. So the last 6 weeks was a time of being extremely sore and doing
exercises in order to recover. The leg is almost there and Christien and I
could go for a walk around the block for the first time this morning. It seems
that it will most probably totally recover. I thank God for the recovery
although it was a very difficult and painful season.
Ø Please pray
with us for full recovery and grace in this time where I still struggle.
We are currently busy with the biblical worldview
school and it is very interesting. We are studying 8 worldviews that are
currently followed by huge groups of people. Our next worldview we are looking
at is New age philosophy. The school
equips us with basic knowledge on how to evangelise other worldviews as some
worldviews do not have the Scripture as foundation. It has been a great help to
understand other people’s beliefs and how to evangelise other worldviews. The
class also engage a lot and the discussions are very fruitful and helpful!
Ø Let us pray for
the speakers and the students of this school to finish well.
Please pray with us for our
children:
1) Andrea and Francois is
getting married in less than two months – we praise God for providing so much
of what is needed already – please pray for the couple and the last
arrangements
2) Josua is in his last
exam of school – please pray with him for calmness and to study well. Pray also
for his plans for next year – he will be doing a gap year with a possible DTS
at YWAM .
3) Pray for us too, as
parents and also in our role as mentors and counsellors.
