Wonderful time in Malawi & 2019 plans
Newsletter December 2018
Wonderful
time in Malawi
We could get away for
a little break in the beginning of December with our kids which we were very grateful
for but I had to talk in Malawi from the 17 -20 Dec. The flight tickets was
very expensive because of December and I realised I would have to go with the
bus! It was a 40 hour drive and I was not really looking forward to the trip
there and back. The time in Malawi was absolutely worth the little bit of
suffering of the long trip with the bus. There were 19 students and Jimmy is
leading the DTS. He was one of the first two refugees we helped to do DTS. It
was great to spend time with him and the base in Malawi. The bus drove through
the countries of Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi. This gave me a good oversight
of what is going on in these African countries.
Gathering kids in Ikageng for Christmas presents
The parent of a young
singer called us because they want to give Christmas presents in Ikageng. The
goal was to gather about 200 kids at a church we are helping in Ikageng. Pastor
Myeni was called up for 6 months by the army and when he came back his church
went through a tough time. When he came back we decided to help him with
evangelism to get his church back on track. We know him as a faithful servant
of the gospel as he preaches the gospel to the poor and the needy continually.
It was a great time and many kids gathered as many balls were given to the
kids. Some of them got Christmas presents for the first time ever. (Amira - thank you so much! )
2019
- Busy international schedule next year
At this stage the plan is to go
to Zimbabwe, Malawi, Congo, Nigeria, Gibraltar and Switzerland next year as
Wikus was invited to speak in DTS’s and attend conferences. The goal is the
refugee focus and speaking on different DTS’s. We thank God as His plan for the
Ywam Potch base is unfolding and we are growing in favour in many areas. We got
a good donation from Netherlands for refugees to do DTS in South Africa specifically
and we are now at 11 refugees that we could help to do DTS. Some of them have
already started to be leaders in missions and it is in line with the promise
from God that refugees will lead missions in Africa. The indigenous
missionaries understand the worldview of Africa very well and when they are
equipped they become very good missionaries! Our Operation Refugee project is
already very successful and we look to expand to different areas with the same
vision.
Our
Liberty DTS starting in February
For the first year we are going
to run two DTS’s in the year. We are very excited about this because it is much
easier to build momentum with 2 DTS’s than one in a year. We already have a
nice amount of students and our outreach groups have done great work
historically. We are therefore very glad we would be able to once again send a
nice group of young people to go and serve missions in Africa. I have now also
travelled personally in Africa quite extensively and know exactly what the
conditions and the challenges are. A group from South-Africa is always a fresh
breeze with the challenges the African countries are facing.
Working
with different churches
We
are looking to work with 4 churches in the coming DTS’s. As we run courses to
assist the churches and we help were we can in the DTS we are building good
relationship with a few churches. Because Ywam is intercultural and
interdenominational it has its own challenges and blessings it brings. Ywam
many times become a bridge between the churches and can get influence in
different churches because of the mandate God has given.
Hope you had a great
festive season and that your 2019 will be blessed.
