October 2013
Hi, from Potchefstroom. We just had a big thunderstorm and hail here. We
thank God for everything that happened in the past month. Our expectations have
been surpassed and we hope it bodes well for the future. Here is a few of the
highlights
Hosting the Southern-African base leaders
meeting
For long we
felt it will be too much pressure and really tough to host a meeting of this
magnitude in Ywam. I was really surprised when Stefaan phoned me earlier this
year and asked us to host the national base leaders meeting. It was a lot of
preparations and we just closed our eyes and ste by step organizinged the
meeting. We really can thank God for our great team and Mimi and Jackie who did
all the cooking! Praise God, it was a great success! We had the leaders of a
base in Namibia, from several Cape Town bases, Durban, PE and many more.
We heard from
the national leader about what happened at the International conference in
Mexico and what they felt God said to the mission. It is always very exciting
as Ywam is a prophetic movement and there are always new ways God leads. Ywam
tries to move away more from an organization towards an organism. It was really
great learning from those that have been really succesfull and have been proven
to be wise leaders and lead by the Holy Spirit.
It was a pleasure to host the meeting and a
great relief that everything went really smooth. They also prayed for us and we
made a lot of new friends.
Staff training for the DTS
We had Holger
from Germany here for 5 days from the DTS centre that trains DTS staff
worldwide. It was a great learning experience for all of us. He has been in
Ywam for 28 years and shared great insights in many areas. We were joined with
guys from the Vanderbijl University of Technology that is going to staff the DTS.
We also had Giva from Angola and Henri from Pretoria joining us. All together
we were 12 staff and it was a really great time of getting together, waiting on
what God is saying for the DTS and Potch and training for DTS staffing.
It was a
really busy 2 weeks as we had the staff training, 1 day break and then the
National base leaders meeting. Yet as we look back it was a great time of
growth and a time of growing in insight and understanding. What a privilege to
get continual input from international teachers that really have the same DNA,
that arel mission minded and serving the Lord wholeheartedly. We as a team came
togher wonderfully and we are so thankful.
Please also
pray for our staff as we are all volunteers and live on sponsorships from
friends. Each staff has their own struggles – and they need prayers to
overcome.
Outreach team from Worcester
The very next
day after the base leaders meeting I went to fetch a team of 5 DTS students
from the airport just coming from Mozambique. As I went to fetch them I got
stuck in a thunderstorm in peak traffic in Johannesburg, a real adventure! I
had a great meeting at the airport with Bruno ( as he came to visit the team in
Potch) that is the base leader of Worcester. He stayed behind and spent some
time with us as he is the base leader of our sending base. It is really nice
and helpful as the bigger base leaders supports us and shares their wisdom and
all kinds of experiences they had with people.
As we got a lot of people internationally of
all flavours it really helps to have a succesful model from which we could
launch the new base in Potch.
DTS Starting next month
As we are
hosting the outreach team we are in the process of preparing the house and
everything needed for the discipleship training school that will start 22
November. We have been blessed to have staff from 6 nations and we believe we
can have every effective and really exciting training school. Ywam has been
really effective in the art of discipleship and has a few ingredients in every
discipleship school.
As we are preparing for the lecture phase, we
need your prayers and support. I truly believe that Ywam has the right DNA to
change individuals in this area effectively and also to go out into the whole
world. We currently have about 10 students and we are praying for 20. We
believe God will send the right guys for a great time in God’s presence.
We still need
some furniture and curtains etc for the YWAM house. Please pray with us for all
the details!
Feel free to
connect us with students who are interested in doing the DTS.
Moving back into our own house
We rented the
house in Wilgen Street for the next 13 months and we are moving back to our own
house. Our house will also be used as an extention of the base as we go into
next year. We are proud of the foundation we got for Ywam to launch from here.
This ends a seaon
of 2 years we spend away from our home and we are looking forward to the next
season of growth for the base. In this season the organism of Ywam takes root
and a real international mission flow is established in the city and cities
around Potch.
Our family
Our high
school kids are busy with exams and the primary school kids had a busy week of
Revue( school concert). Now they are busy with speach, homework and other
projects! Andrea likes to bake cookies with the American girl and help the team
to cook too! The family also enjoyed
playing UNO with the team!
